I've been hoping to make an advent calendar for our family for at least a year now...and then surprise! I go to our Mom to Mom group last week and...
the "Jesus Tree!"
Looks like your regular Christmas tree, right?
Here's what we started with:
All of this created 25 ornaments for the tree. (This super mom put together enough of these paper bags filled with the parts for like 40 moms!)
Inside each "gift" (jewelry gift boxes, gift card boxes, and treat boxes from Hob Lob) is a bible verse referring to Jesus as well as one of the ornaments we made representing one of the names of Jesus found in the verse. For instance, here is one of the bible verses:
Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal. Isaiah 26:4
Inside is a rock hot glued to a pretty piece of yarn to hang it on the tree!
Each day in advent you open another present, read the verse and hang the ornament on the tree. There is no particular order and I think it's great because every gift under the tree is Jesus! How cute is that?!
I'm thinking that when my kiddos get older, it might be fun to have them open the present and then find the right verse to go with it (or vice versa)...in other words, not have them together in the box. Whatcha' think?
